METU Sociology Department started its undergraduate program in 1965, and became an independent department in 1982. In the academic staff of the department, there are 21 lecturers and 33 research assistants. The department is supported by visiting scholars regularly. The Department of Sociology has also master and doctorate programs which give the students theoretical insights and practical research formation.

The graduates of the Department of Sociology, METU, have job opportunities for a wide range of positions both in public and private sectors. The graduates can work as specialits, project coordinators and sociologists at public banks and various ministries. In the private sector, research companies, advertisement agencies, marketing firms, and the human resource management departments of various companies, and on the international scale, the World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, ILO offer many positions for our graduates.
